Who is eligible?Any men or women living in Australia who are over 18 years of age and who have recently been diagnosed with HIV are eligible to participate in the study. ’Recently’ means a diagnosis any time in the last five years, but preferably within the last two years. What can I do to help?If you agree to take part in the Seroconversion Study, you will be asked to complete a web-based survey, which should take about 30 minutes. Please allow enough time to complete the survey. The survey contains several parts. In the first part, we are going to ask you about the events that you think might have led to your HIV diagnosis, including sexual behaviour and drug use, if applicable. In the second part, you will be asked to recall your sexual behaviour during the six-months prior to testing HIV-positive. In addition, we will ask questions about your attitudes and beliefs around the time of your diagnosis, and how some of these things may have changed for you in light of your diagnosis. As well as the online survey, you will also be invited to participate in a voluntary face-to-face interview. The interview will allow you to talk in more detail about your experiences, and will allow you to tell your story in a more conversational and complete way. The interview should take between 20 and 60 minutes to complete and will be audio recorded and transcribed. This interview will be confidential, and no names or other identifying details will be recorded in the interview. IMPORTANT: This interview is voluntary, and not required for your participation in the online portion of the study. |
